Anderson Homes In Minnesota: Building Dreams Since 1950!

As a manufactured home veteran of almost half-a-century, I often become nostalgic about the “good old days” of the mobile home business, or as it is called now, the manufactured home industry.

Knowing all too well the difficulties and challenges associated with this industry, I have a great deal of respect and admiration for companies that have survived throughout the years. I know that retailers who have remained steadfast in the industry must be doing things right and treating customers properly. For businesses like these, I am not at all hesitant to recommend their services to a potential manufactured home purchaser because I am confident that they will be taken care of and that their needs will be met.  One retailer in particular that has been around over 60 years and continues to have much success, is Anderson Homes,Inc. in Sebeka, Minnesota.

Anderson Homes, Inc. was originally started by Andy and Lettie Anderson in 1948. It all began with a trip to Texas.Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, along with another couple, stayed in a trailer while visiting in Texas for three months. On their way back home to Minnesota, they stopped at a trailer dealership in Kansas City, Missouri. The owner was trying to set up dealerships in various areas. So he and Andy made a deal that if they bought one of his trailers he would send Andy two trailers on consignment.

Andy brought the three new trailers to his farm north of Nimrod, Minnesota. They sold so well that Andy decided to move the business to town. In 1950 Anderson Trailer Sales officially opened its doors at its present location in Sebeka along Highway 71.

It was not long before Andy became so busy that he could not handle the business alone. In 1954 Andy’s son, Buster joined him in the business venture. (At this time you could buy a new eight-foot-wide trailer for approximately $1000).

In 1960 Andy and Lettie sold the business to their son Buster and his wife Dorothy. During this time, trailers were becoming more of a year round home and were called “mobile homes”. This led to the name change from Anderson Trailer Sales to Anderson Mobile Homes. The Roger Miller song, “King of the Road” was first introduced as a new slogan for the business.

Once again the business was outgrowing its sales staff, so Buster’s sons Mike and Mark Anderson joined the crew in 1973 and in 1985 Buster and Dorothy sod the business to their sons.

In 1995, Anderson Mobile Homes went through its second name change to Anderson Homes, Inc. The name reflected the ever changing business and the addition of modular homes into the sales center. Today, Anderson Homes, Inc. employs close to 30 people with additional part-time help in the summer. Anderson Homes,Inc. has its own experienced sales, setting, finishing, and service crews to help customers with their home purchases. With over 58 years in the business, Anderson Homes, Inc is ready to help you with purchasing the home of your dreams.
